In the dynamic world of independent filmmaking, emerging talents are on a constant quest to illuminate their unique voices and storytelling prowess. If you’re a budding filmmaker with a burning passion for narrative craftsmanship, AGBO, the production company founded by the renowned Russo Brothers, has an electrifying opportunity that might just be the catalyst for your cinematic journey. Brace yourselves for No Sleep ’til Film Fest — an exhilarating filmmaking competition that challenges you to create a short film within the blink-and-you’ll-miss-it timeframe of 48 hours.

Yes, you heard it right — 48 hours. While it may sound like an insurmountable feat, there’s a compelling rationale behind this demanding deadline. AGBO’s No Sleep ’til Film Fest is engineered to push creative boundaries and inspire innovation. It beckons filmmakers from every corner of the globe to step into the arena. Your mission, should you choose to accept it, is to craft a concise masterpiece, a three-minute or shorter film that not only captivates but leaves an indelible impression — a testament to your unique artistic vision.

    Festival guidelines.

To participate in this exhilarating filmmaking challenge, you must be at least 13 years old. If you’re 18 or older, you can register individually or on behalf of your team. For those under 18, a parent or legal guardian must submit the film with a completed parental consent form.

On Friday, September 29th at 5:00 pm PT, they will unveil the Festival prompt and guidelines on this page and their AGBO social media channels. From that moment, you’ll have precisely 48 hours to craft and submit your film, ending at 5:00 p.m. PST on Sunday, October 1st. Upload your film and accompanying materials through their submission page. Films received after 5:00 p.m. PST on Sunday may not be considered. All creative work must occur within this 48-hour window. Any pre-competition creative endeavors, including scriptwriting, rehearsals, costume/set design, shooting, editing, sound design, rendering, and uploading, are strictly prohibited. The only permissible preparations prior to the challenge’s announcement are forming your team (assembling your cast and crew), scouting locations, and gathering equipment.

Ensure your film falls within a maximum total runtime of 3 minutes. Films must not be shorter than 30 seconds. These runtimes exclude end credits, which must be under 15 seconds. In line with a family-friendly approach, your entries must not contain indecent or obscene material. They welcome films in any language. While subtitles are optional, they are encouraged for the benefit of a broader audience.

You’re free to incorporate animation and special effects, but they must be created after the challenge’s announcement. The use of stock footage or content created outside the official time period is prohibited unless it’s part of a post-production effect or appears on a background monitor within the official time period. Permissible stock footage includes elements like bullets, fires, explosions, and chroma-keyed backgrounds. However, using stock footage featuring people or other performers is not allowed. If you intend to use copyrighted material, including music or video clips created by others, you must obtain the necessary authorizations.

When submitting your film, you must adhere to the Film Freeway form’s instructions. If you’re under 18, a parental consent form signed by your parent or legal guardian is mandatory. Union members are expected to comply with the rules and regulations set forth by their respective unions. In the event you miss the submission deadline, don’t lose hope. Keep working on your film and submit your materials as soon as possible. Your creativity knows no bounds, and they’re excited to see what you can create.

Why dive headfirst into this whirlwind cinematic journey?

Beyond the adrenaline rush of the creative challenge, the rewards that await are nothing short of spectacular. AGBO has laid out a treasure trove of prizes and, perhaps even more valuable, mentorship from an independent studio with an impeccable track record.

The grand prize, the much-coveted first place, beckons with a trove of cinematic treasures, including a RED Komodo Starter Pack, a brand-new GoPro action camera, A Surface Pro 9 from Microsoft, DaVinci Resolve Studio from Blackmagic Design, AGBO merch, and a stash of Red Bull-branded goodies.

Even if you don’t seize the top spot, the two runner-up filmmakers won’t be left empty-handed. They will receive a brand-new GoPro action camera, a Surface Pro 9 from Microsoft, DaVinci Resolve Studio from Blackmagic Design, AGBO and Red Bull merch.

But the rewards don’t conclude there. The winning films will bask in the limelight as they premiere across the AGBOVERSE and grace AGBO’s bustling social channels. This exposure opens doors to a broad and engaged audience, putting your name and talent on the map.

In addition, all three victorious filmmakers will secure coveted spots within the AGBO Storytellers Collective — an exclusive, prestigious alumni network, housing individuals who have participated in other AGBO fellowship programs. This fraternity of cinematic minds serves as an invaluable resource, a haven for collaboration, mentorship, and professional growth within the industry. As a Storytellers Collective member, you’ll connect with like-minded creatives who share your passion and ambition, forging bonds that can shape your cinematic journey.

But here’s an intriguing twist. The current members of the Storytellers Collective will also be donning the hat of judges, selecting an extra filmmaker to receive the “AGBO Storytellers Collective Award” and join this elite alumni network. It’s a testament to AGBO’s unwavering commitment to nurturing and celebrating talent in the dynamic world of filmmaking.

The No Sleep ’til Film Fest submission window is brief yet significant. Submissions open on September 29, 2023, and will draw to a close on October 1, 2023, at 5 p.m. PT. There is no entry fee, ensuring that this festival remains an open door for filmmakers from every corner of the world.

Seize this moment to showcase your brilliance, kindle your creativity, and etch your name onto the tapestry of filmmaking excellence. Unleash your storytelling prowess, gather your crew, and embark on this pulse-pounding 48-hour filmmaking odyssey. The Russo Brothers and AGBO eagerly anticipate the emergence of the next wave of cinematic luminaries — and that star could very well be you. Don’t let this chance slip through your fingers. Become a part of the No Sleep ’til Film Fest legacy and illuminate the world with your unique cinematic vision.
